A Pledge
Look inside of you
Search for the love
You store for rainy days
Your safe as houses
Forty years stolen
A childhood gone
Her sweet innocence
Eaten up and spat out
Today she takes a leap of faith
A deep breath, a sigh of relief
As she reaches for the stars
Dreaming big
Bigger than those who wronged her
Look inside of you
Little by little
Take down that wall
Holding you back
Make a pledge
Only you will understand
Inside of you lies authenticity
A true warrior woman
Ready to take a world by storm

Here is my first poem of 2023 and this was written to help me gain some kind of clarity and feed into my confidence!
As a survivor of abuse, often we don’t feel that we can move forward and live a joyous life away from the constant reminders of our trauma.
I certainly don’t always feel confident enough to face my trauma with grace and eloquence — I’m often consumed by fear and guilt but today 01/01/23 I make a pledge to keep being me, to allow myself to be vulnerable in the right situations which is right for me!
