Hold her in the light

When she let you in
She let you close
Just to get her fingers burnt
You lied and held her in silence
Afraid to speak a truth
As she battled with demons
Berated by you — beaten down
Words of simple hate
A trusting heart as hers
Beating rhythmless
Naming you all
A task too hard to fulfill
Pain too deep
Don’t make her let you in
Just to burn her fingers
Giver her a trust
And hold her in the light
