Returning her to sixteen

Meeting of eyes

Interlocking his

Power to her fear

Returning her to sixteen

Her heart fading

Seeing through her flaws

She blames thyself

But — what, why?

Returning her to sixteen

Dreaming of an end

Yet not even close

Rocking in a corner

She sighs…..

It’s over

Nearly of an age

Knowing her own mind

Yet overloaded with fear

On her own

Lost and invisible

Returning her to sixteen

Returning her to sixteen — Is about the first time I was raped, on my 16th birthday!!

I am publishing this particular poem because my birthday will be here in a couple of weeks so it’s going to be another anniversary, a day I can’t ignore. A day to celebrate being alive, being here to tell my story and a day I learn to be brave!!
