Trigger warning. Mentions of abuse

Photo by Dmitry Ratushny on Unsplash

Living in the shadows
Of shattered silence
Harbouring secrets of the dark
Rattled voices — a struggle
Escalating into hushed lips
Living in the shadows
Of painful memories
Of her past — her fear
In moments of disrepair, and
As beating hearts collide
She struggles to fight for survival
In life or death, she poises
Fighting each punch taken
Ears ringing out in nonsense
Tears fall like a river or a stream
Sweat gathering on her palms
As she releases the secrets of the dark

This poem ( Secrets of the dark ) is about the abuse that I endured. For the best part of the time the abuse happened, it was in the dark….hence the title.
