Today vs Yesterday

*Trigger warning: Abuse

Looking forward

Dreams big

Yet held back

By acts — memories

A child beaten

By a child

Coaxed by adults

Cheering and clapping

Cackles and yapping

Tears streaming

Bruises appearing

Her head bowed down

Shamed, slammed

Taking punches

Kicks because you say so

Yet, afraid to say no

Your fun was

Her nightmare

But why?

A child is all

She looks back today

To try and forget yesterday

But shame and humiliation

Has become a celebration

Of a life survived

I wrote this poem because, with everything that happened to me — this was one of the worst things. Why? Because it is without a doubt, the most humiliating thing — to be forced to your knees, hands behind the back so your the same height as the person who will be made to kick the shit out of you!

The ringleader — my step sister created her little audience and found the ultimate pleasure in watching me beg for mercy, while her son (7 years younger) kicked and punched me until I could barely move!

Thank you for reading!! 😊
